Let's Discuss Your Uterine Fibroids Treatment Options

Most women are at risk of developing uterine fibroids, especially those who are between the ages of 40 and 50, African-American, over-weight, and/or have a family history of fibroids.

The wide range of size and location of fibroids in the uterus can result in a likewise wide range of symptoms, from visible swelling to heavy menstrual bleeding and pain, to difficulty with urination, pain during intercourse, or even severe pain and discomfort at all times.

Symptoms of fibroids can be distracting or immobilizing to the point of limiting work and daily life, and of course, all women are unique in pain tolerance. Therefore, treatment options for relief of fibroids symptoms will begin with a consultation to determine the most beneficial and healthiest procedure for relief.
While fibroids are almost always benign (non-cancerous) tumors, and although they usually shrink after menopause, symptoms may be unbearable to the point of needing relief.

Treatment options have historically ranged from the extreme of hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus) to the newest and least-invasive method of Uterine Fibroids Embolization (UFE), a non-surgical, outpatient option to quickly relieve symptoms without removing the uterus.

The Vascular & Interventional Institute of Louisville specializes in UFE, and we are happy to offer you the convenience, relief and efficiency of this one-hour procedure. To determine if UFE is right for you, we offer consultation at no cost, and we also consult with your primary care physician and/or your Gynecologist.

Fast, convenient and least-invasive relief from the pain and suffering of fibroids is the goal and main benefit of Uterine Fibroid Embolization, however let’s find out if it’s the best option for you, with all of your needs and conditions considered. We look forward to talking with you about your best path to relief.

Vascular & Interventional Institute of Louisville is the first outpatient clinic in the states of Kentucky and Indiana which offer this one-hour procedure. No overnight hospitalizations and long rehabilitation is required anymore! No big cuts, no big scars, and no long recovery. Patients will recover for several hours in our clinic then be discharged to the comfort of their home. Patients are encouraged to return to normal activity as soon as the next day.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), also referred to as Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE), is a medical non-surgical, outpatient procedure that shrinks uterine fibroids. One tiny incision allows us to solve the problem quickly, safely and without surgery. This procedure has been performed for many years, but because most Gynecologists aren’t trained to perform it, they often don’t recommend it!

Most or all hospitals require overnight stays when they do UFE procedures. Fortunately, The Vascular & Interventional Institute of Louisville is the only out-patient clinic in Kentucky and Indiana that allows the patients to return home after their treatment to recover in the privacy and convenience of their own home. Our specialized center has all the staff, procedure rooms, recovery areas, and equipment for a women’s procedure.
